I lost my son’s birth certificate and do not remember where it was issued. A few years ago I got one with a person who provides such services but have lost contact with such person. Where should I obtain this certificate and how long should I wait to have it
The first thing to consider is the place where you lived at the time the child was born because it is very possible that the certificate was issued at the Civil Registry Office corresponding to such place. It is also important to provide the full name of the parents who declared the child, the child's full name and date of birth. If you cannot remember where the child was declared or if the people who assisted you still do not remember, you have several options.
First, if the birth certificate was issued in the National District, the search becomes a little more difficult and extensive since there are twelve Civil Registry Offices. The first thing we do is verify whether the record can be issued in the Central Registry of the Central Electoral Board where all records of the country are registered, but it turns out that sometimes such registration is not complete and it is necessary to perform the search in each Civil Registry Office. In the event that the certificate was issue in another province the search is less extensive since there may be less Civil Registry Offices concerned. This is why saving data such as the birth certificate number, folio and book of such certificate is important.
Once the registry has been found the issuance of the certificate cannot last longer than two working days. Afterward, the certificate needs to be legalized at Central Electoral Board.
