I've always heard about the “speedy divorce" and I want to know if I can get this divorce in a week or less.

The divorce in the Dominican Republic known as "speedy divorce" is legally possible only when the spouses are foreigners and when the cause for divorce is mutual consent. One of the spouses also needs to be physically present at the hearing relating to the divorce held by a competent court of law, and the other spouse should be adequately represented by special power of attorney.

All documents being presented at the court that originated in a foreign country, such as marriage certificates, birth certificates of the children, special powers of attorney, among others, must be legalized by the Dominican Consul in the country where these documents have been issued. Certainly, the speedy divorce is a special process that can be completed rather quickly.
