All Civil Marriages in the Dominican Republic are celebrated by the Civil Registry Officer, in the presence of at least, two (2) witnesses. The civil marriage may be celebrated in the location of your preference, in a tourist destination or at the Court of Peace. This service includes the transportation of the Court of Peace’s Judge to the location of your preference. Once the marriage has been celebrated, eLexPersona.com will be in charge of obtaining your original and certified Marriage Certificate.

If your Marriage Certificate will be presented outside of the Dominican Republic, eLexPersona.com will translate and legalize the document before the corresponding institutions, in order for the certificate to be valid abroad.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

1. Copy of the Cédula (Dominican ID card) or complete passport (if foreigner) of the future spouses.

2. Original Copy of the Birth Certificate of the future spouses. If one of the future spouses is Dominican the document must be legalized at the Central Electoral Board.

3. Civil Status Declaration signed before a Notary Public, if the person is in the Dominican Republic, if is located outside of the country the document must be signed before the Dominican Consul in your country.

4. Power of Attorney authorizing eLexPersona.com to legalize your Marriage Certificate, at the corresponding consulate of your country in the Dominican Republic, if required.

5. Divorce decree, if either of the spouses has been divorced.

Frequently Asked Questions


1. How long does it take to obtain the Marriage Certificate?
At the moment of the marriage celebration, the Officer will provide the future spouses a certified receipt which will be used to pick up the original Marriage Certificate. Between one and two days after the marriage has been celebrated, we will request the original Marriage Certificate.

2. If there is no Dominican Consulate in my country where can I legalize the Civil Status Declaration?
All documents must be legalized by the nearest Dominican Consulate, in order to be valid in the Dominican Republic. If there is no Dominican Consulate in your country, you can legalize such documents with the Apostille.

3. Why is a Civil Status Declaration necessary?
The Civil Status Declaration proves the newlyweds are both celibate.
